from 45 reviewsI have been a ranked player and teaching tennis pro for years and years, and I have also tried many Pickleball paddles to no avail. The Ethos Arete with its long gated handle and teardrop design along with 10 g of lead tape is perfect for any tennis player, wishing to play pickle ball at a high-level.
Am loving the Erete. Have been playing for just over a year and really like the power and control this paddle offers. (I come to pickleball from a ping pong/racquetball background). I encourage you to give it a try - I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Love the feel. Feels very natural coming from tennis. The long grip gives you the true feel for the touhy. A bit on the heavy side surprisingly. A definite head turning. Head looks small but if you need the corners you are not hitting right 😂🤣😂
I started with a beginner paddle from one of those four-in-one sets on Amazon. Then tried the Wilson Juice and loved the blade shape as a past tennis player. However the materials were not great and two of them broke on me. Then I tried a step up with the Engage Pursuit. Better performance but within a few months I felt a subtle crack had formed between the handle and face. This happened to two new Engage paddles. I worried that I wouldn't be able to find a blade paddle/reach that wouldn't be always breaking.
My friend recommended I check out Ethos' Scoria, which is thermoformed, so it's not two pieces connected like the Wilson or Engage seemed to be. The Scoria has given me the same feel and performance as a blade without losing the sweet spot or the breaking that the other paddles had. Better control than the other ones too. Very happy with Ethos' communication (customer service) and this paddle.
I love this paddle. It gets tons of spin which gives me the confidence to hit hard drives and serves and trust that the topspin will keep my shot in. The shape and weight of it let me whip the paddle a lot more which helps too, so I feel like I get more spin with this paddle than other I've tried. The elongated handle has really helped me develop my two-handed backhand for every type of shot. It's got good pop to it too which I feel like gives me more control over my dinks.
The shape definitely has a bit of a learning curve to it, mostly with reacting to speed ups, but I found that I got used to it after only a handful of times playing with it. I highly recommend giving it a try. You'll definitely get lots of people at the courts commenting on it.
Amazing paddle love the 6 inch handle along with the more aerodynamic head shape! Coming from tennis and trying other paddles this design is more like tennis racket itself, It also has great feel and really good spin great touch and power. The paddle weighed in exactly to spec great quality control and top notch components! Dont hesitate to try this paddle!!!!!
Just as advertised. Carbon face for the rip, elongated handle, and unique head shape gives it a more racquet-feel during the swing; weight balances nicely, very satisfying on the baseline shots and drives. Offers a good amount if power and pop. And despite the seemingly smaller head, still very quick at the kitchen line. Plus freebie grips and eraser (doggo approved). Consider me a fan moving forward
Really like the reach and control this paddle delivers. The Arete shape throws a lot of people off about the sweet spot being smaller. This paddle has a very forgiving sweet spot and the long handle is great for the two handed shots when needed. This paddle performs better than the $250+ paddles I have in my bag. I have been using this as my main for about two weeks and I am dialed in. Already have people asking to use it at local rec play. I will definitely be pushing this as a recommendation.
This paddle is a game-changer and a must-have for anyone stepping onto the pickleball court. From beginners to seasoned players, it offers a solid performance across all aspects of the game. With finesse for delicate shots and power for put-aways and drives, it's the ultimate all-court paddle. What sets it apart is its ability to deliver consistent and reliable shots, ensuring you're always in control of the game. And considering its price point, it's undoubtedly a top-tier paddle that punches well above its weight. If only I had discovered this paddle when I first started playing, my game would have reached new heights much sooner.
I love this paddle! Telos is lightweight and responsive. It allows me to react quickly and accurately to my opponent's shots. I won't use any other paddles going forward.
Coming from a two handed backhand tennis background, I was originally drawn to the Scoria due to its 6" handle. After playing with the first one I purchased, I knew almost immediately this would be the paddle I would use long term. The ability to hit heavy ground strokes I expected, but not with the amount of control the Scoria provides. I can shape and soften my shots at the kitchen with this paddle more so than others I have used. I thought there would be a trade-off with what I would gain in power....I would lose in control. I just haven't found that to be the case. So, I'm all in on the Scoria. Just received my second Scoria paddle, today.
and fell in love with the paddle as soon as I hit with it. Just ordered 2, one for me and one for a friend. Hope they get here quick, ready to go.
I’ll have to say I’ve been underwhelmed by all the pickle paddles on the market. However, the simple elegance of this paddle cannot be defined. In addition, ethos pickleball has exceptional customer service. My game feels like it’s already improved tenfold.
I’ve played with the Ethos Scoria a few times now and I’m impressed with how soft it feels while providing a lot of power at the same time. I had been using the Volair Forza Mach 1 which I also like but I think the Scoria outperforms it in every category except spin. The touch on resets and consistency in the short game with the Scoria have been pleasantly surprising. Several times I’ve had mishits that I thought had no chance to get over but somehow found their way into the shallow part of the kitchen often bringing the point back to neutral. Really pleased with this paddle so far and hoping Ethos will produce another paddle with the DBD/Mach 1 Forza shape.
